League Format
Team Format:
-
The format of this league will be from “Major League Pickleball” (or MLP). The format is as follows:
-
Minimum of 4 players per team: 2 men and 2 women
-
Teams are allowed to have more than 4 players per team.
-
-
Teams may use as many team members as they would like in a match.
-
Teams cannot change the lineup once the individual match has begun.
-
If a player was planning on playing Men’s Doubles and then playing Mixed Doubles as well, and they were injured in the Men’s Doubles match, they are allowed to be substituted out before the Mixed Doubles match begins.
-
-
If a player cannot make a weekly matchup, and the team does not have any substitutes, they may find their own replacement. However, in the spirit of fair competition, the team cannot bring in a player who is not above a 1.0 (DUPR or USAPA) rating higher than the original player.
-
If a team uses a non-team member substitute, the team must pay a $25 substitution fee. This is only a fee if a player that is not on the team, participates as a substitute for a match.
Match Format:
-
Each match will consist of 4 games (shown in order of play):
-
1 Men’s Doubles
-
1 Women’s Doubles
-
2 Mixed Doubles
-
-
All games will be played as Best 2 out of 3 sets to 11 (win by 1).
-
The Men’s and Women’s Doubles matches will play first, then the Mixed Doubles matches will be played afterwards
-
If the match is tied at 2 wins a team, then teams will select one man and one woman to play a Mixed Doubles Tiebreaker to decide the match
-
The Mixed Doubles Tiebreaker will be 1 set to 11 (win by 2)
-
League Rules:
-
The league will have a regular season that takes place over the course of 10 weeks throughout the fall of 2024. The proposed timeline is shown below. Points will be awarded for matches, using the following format:
-
3 points: Match Win
-
1 point: Match Loss in the Match Tiebreaker
-
0 points: Match Loss in Regulation (No match tiebreaker played)
-
This point system will determine the standings in the league. If two or more teams are tied in points in the standings, the following tiebreakers will be used:
-
Head-to-Head Record
-
Points Differential
-
Number of Regulation Wins (No tiebreaker played)
-
Record against Highest ranked opponent (goes until there is a difference in record)
